Dateline Dehradun: A One Day National Seminar titled “Beyond the Horizon: Emerging Technologies and AI in Focus” was organized by Himalayan School of Science & Technology at Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Jolly Grant on 26th April.

The objective of this seminar was to empower the students with the knowledge, insights, and connections necessary to navigate the complex intersection of emerging technologies and AI, steering towards a future that is both innovative and responsible.

Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Vice Chancellor, SRHU, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Principal of HSST, along with senior professors, faculty members, and students were in attendance.

Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, has consistently emphasized the significance of ongoing learning and exploration in emerging technologies in view of AI, especially in harnessing technology’s transformative potential for personal and communal advancement. He also spoke to the young minds to accept the rapidly advancing world and understand the need for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in today’s digital era. He added that today as we stand at the cusp of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AI has emerged as a transformative force across industries, from healthcare to finance, manufacturing etc, therefore it is necessary to acquire knowledge of this domain.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr Pooja Baloni, Faculty at HSST and traditional lamp lighting ceremony.

Dr. Pramod Kumar, the Principal of Himalayan School of Science and Technology, was at the helm of this significant and transformative seminar. He welcomed and felicitated the keynote speakers and addressed the young intellects, and emphasised upon the profound impact of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in today’s digital era. He reminded that by embracing new technologies, we not only equip ourselves with tools but also with the alignment of mindset to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of tomorrow.

Dr. Niladri Chatterjee, Professor, IIT, Delhi, graced the event with his presence as the first keynote speaker. Dr Chatterjee delivered a comprehensive discourse on ‘Natural Language Processing’ (NLP), elucidating its advanced techniques and applications. He delved into key topics such as sentiment analysis, named entity recognition, and machine translation. He also discussed applications like courier classification with structured and unstructured text. The talk also addressed the future work in this area. Overall, it provided a deep understanding of NLP’s technical intricacies, inspiring further exploration, and experimentation among the audience.

Dr. Manju Khari, Professor, JNU, Delhi, as the second keynote speaker, delivered a talk on ‘Deep Learning Trends and its Applications’. She explained the concept of Machine Learning (ML) as a subset of AI, focusing on algorithms that enable systems to learn and improve from experience. Deep Learning (DL) was introduced as a specialized form of ML, emphasizing its ability to process vast amounts of data through neural networks. Recent advancements in DL were discussed, showcasing its remarkable progress in various domains such as computer vision and natural language processing. The talk highlighted the significance of DL frameworks and libraries in facilitating DL model development, along with deployment frameworks for DL models in production environments. Rishikesh – An Indian classical music event, ‘Dharohar-2024’, was organized by Shruti-Sarita Art by the banks of the Ganges. The renowned violinist from Delhi, Dr. Santosh Nahar, delivered a captivating performance.

The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Dr. Swami Rama. The event was held at the Abhayam Ashram on Veerbhadra Marg. Dr. Santosh Nahar initiated the musical evening with Raga Charukeshi, mesmerizing the audience with his performance. He then enchanted the audience with the tune of the bhajan “Payo Ji Maine Ram Ratan Dhan Payo”. Pradeep Kumar from Rishikesh accompanied him on the tabla. Before the performance, Dr. Santosh Nahar addressed all music practitioners, discussing the nuances of classical music, sharing his musical experiences and the nature of his practice, guiding the students.

Dateline Dehradun: Under the joint auspices of Swami Rama Himalayan University Jollygrant, and the National Academy of Sciences India, Uttarakhand Chapter, Dehradun, a guest lecture was organized on World Intellectual Property Day. Speakers provided information on the importance of intellectual property in creativity and innovation.

On Friday, the lecture organized by the IPR Cell at BC Roy Auditorium was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of the founder, Dr. Swami Rama. The keynote speaker, the Vice Chancellor of SRHU and the Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences India, Uttarakhand Chapter Dehradun, Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, stated that World Intellectual Property Day was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization to increase awareness about how patents, copyrights, trademarks, and designs impact daily life.

This year, the day is being observed under the theme ‘IP and Sustainable Development Goals: Innovating and Creating for our Common Future’. Dr. Rajendra Dobhal mentioned that intellectual property is known as the product of the mind, usable only by the inventor. It encompasses any creation, music, literary work, art, discovery, or design produced by an individual or organization, known as their intellectual property, and the rights obtained by the individual or organization over these creations are called intellectual property rights. He informed the participants about the importance of patents for educators, the government’s incentive policy for intellectual property rights, the Copyright Act, and the Indian procedure for filing patents.

Dr. Vijendra Chauhan, Director General (Academic Development), urged the faculty and students present to stay alert about IPR rights. Previously, the coordinator of the IPR Cell, Dr. Yogendra Singh, provided information about the significance and history of the program. Online ASHA Certificate Course started for Capacity Development Training

Dateline Dehradun: Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) Jolly Grant and Uttarakhand National Health Mission have started an online ASHA Certificate Course in collaboration with Eco India to improve the performance of ASHAs of Dehradun district. Its objective is to train ASHAs at their home. 50 ASHA workers of Dehradun district participated in the program.

Addressing the online launching program, the chief speaker, Director of National Health Mission Uttarakhand, Dr. RK Singh said that the capacity development training given to ASHAs for the next six months by Rural Development Institute (RDI) and Eco India from SRHU is a good initiative. He called upon the ASHAs to join the training in a timely manner so that both their capacity and ability can be increased.

Eco India’s General Manager Deepa Jha said that with the help of the team of SRHU experts in the field of maternal and child health, a good result will undoubtedly be seen. State Community Process Officer Dr. Ajay highlighted the maternal and child health activities of the state.

The alumni meet ‘Milaap-2024’ was inaugurated in the Chaukhamba Auditorium of Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of the founder, Dr. Swami Rama. The chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, addressed the alumni, highlighting that such meetings provide students an opportunity for knowledge sharing. He emphasized the importance of staying connected to one’s university regardless of their current institution. Dr. Dobhal encouraged the alumni to maintain contact and guide the new students.

On this occasion, students from BPT performed beautiful dances as part of the cultural activities. Additionally, competitions such as housie, paper dance, and know your neighbor were organized for the alumni, with prizes awarded to the winners.

Alumni from the batches of 2003 to 2013 shared their experiences. The event was a mix of joy from reuniting with friends and the nostalgia of reliving old memories. Some recited emotional poems, while others shared stories of their successes.

Dateline Dehradun: On the occasion of World Earth Day, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) Jolly Grant organized a guest lecture. During this, expert speakers highlighted the critical need for environmental protection to address the looming crises on Earth.

On Monday, in the university’s Adikailash auditorium, the lecture was held under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences Uttarakhand Chapter, Dehradun. The keynote speaker, renowned historian and environmentalist Ajay Sharma, stated that Earth is home not only to humans but also to millions of animals and plants. However, humans are continuously harming the Earth to fulfill their needs, leading to natural disasters. During the lecture, he shared insights about the history, heritage, and current geographical form of Dehradun city.

The Vice-Chancellor of SRHU Jolly Grant, Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, mentioned that this year’s World Earth Day theme is ‘Planet versus Plastic’. The aim of this theme is to end the use of single-use plastics and to find alternatives. SRHU has set an example in environmental conservation, including the establishment of a plastic bank for plastic disposal.

The Director of Research and Development, Dr. Bindu Dey, expressed gratitude to all attendees. During the event, the Director-General (Academic Development) Dr. Vijendra Chauhan, Registrar Dr. Mukesh Bijlwan, along with faculty and students from various colleges, were present.

Meanwhile, the Community Health Nursing Department of Himalayan College of Nursing (HCN) conducted an awareness campaign in the village of Thano. Dateline Dehradun: The Cancer Research Institute (CRI) at Himalayan Hospital Jollygrant has installed the Halcyon B Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy machine. Dr. Vijay Dhasmana, President of Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), formally inaugurated the machine, dedicating it to public health.

With the continuous increase in cancer cases in India, the demand from patients has led to the commencement of operations using the advanced Halcyon B Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy machine at Himalayan Hospital Jollygrant. This also makes Himalayan Hospital the first and only private teaching hospital in Uttarakhand to install such an advanced machine.

During the inauguration, Dr. Vijay Dhasmana stated, “although the statistics on cancer are alarming, the treatment of cancer is continuously evolving, and with technological advancements, we are now able to more effectively eliminate cancer cells with fewer side effects. This machine will prove to be a boon for patients.”

Dr. Sunil Saini, Director of the Cancer Research Institute Jollygrant, mentioned that the hospital’s Radiation Oncology Department has started using this machine to provide safe and effective radiotherapy to patients.

Dr. Vipul Nautiyal, Head of the Radiation Oncology Department, said, cancer patients in Uttarakhand no longer need to travel outside the state for treatment. The availability of an advanced machine like Halcyon at Himalayan Hospital Jollygrant ensures that cancer treatment facilities are accessible locally.

Until now, this facility was limited to major hospitals in metropolitan areas like Delhi and Chandigarh, but it is now available at the Himalayan Hospital’s Cancer Research Institute in Jollygrant.
