Dateline Nainital: The Leafbird Foundation has launched its ‘2023 nature calendar.’ A calendar that promises to add flight and colour to every month of the coming year.
The joint endeavour of local artists, the calendar is a treat to the eyes. Every month showcases a hand-painted bird and flower by artists from all over the country. While one gets to visually enjoy the avian delight and wild flowers that one finds in these hills of home, the calendar also offers a brief write-up about the art work as well. By buying these nature calendars the buyer also gets to contribute to the cause of environmental education and conservation.
Telling us more about Leafbird Foundation’s nature calendars Bela Negi states, “Leafbird Foundation’s nature calendars are a way to celebrate the wealth of nature in our part of the Himalayas. People in different parts of the world have been able to enjoy the fragrance of our forests through these in the past few years. We also raise funds through these for the educational materials that we develop, which we hope will a permanent resource for the generations to come,” states Bela Negi.
Leafbird Foundation is a trust working in Uttarakhand towards empowering rural communities and safeguarding the environment. While it has worked in the areas of disaster management and relief, organised education and life skill workshops, its focus has been on developing bilingual resource material for environmental education.
One of the many artists whose work has been showcased in the calendar, Surinder Singh speaks for all of them, “Painting for me has been meditation. I live in the hills and Bela gave me the chance to express myself through the birds, trees and flowers of the hills of Uttarakhand that I have lived with and loved.” She further adds, “Through these calendars I hope many more would see and understand what holds me to my home in the hills.”
