Musical tribute paid to classical music doyen late Pandit Rajan Mishra

Dateline Rishikesh: Rishikesh based ‘Shruti Sarita Art’ organized ‘Melodies-2023’ a musical tribute to Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan Mishra. From the classical music evening held on November 4th in Kolkata, young and renowned classical singers like Prasoonjit Chakravarti, Ashish Kukreti, and students of ‘Shruti Sarita Art’ paid their respects to Pandit Rajan Mishra through musical offerings. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in front of the portrait of Guru Dr. Swami Rama.

Following that, students of ‘Shruti Sarita Art’, Rupesh Shriyal, Ajay Singh Negi, and Pankaj Joshi, presented a composition in Raga Puriya-Dhanashri titled “Sumiran Karo Man Ram Naam Ko” in Tintal. Accompanied by Gaurav Banerjee on tabla from Varanasi and Ravi Kumar on harmonium, they delivered a captivating performance.

Subsequently, young singer Ashish Kukreti presented a composition in Raga Bihag in a slow tempo titled “Kaise Sukh Soave Nindariya Shyam,” followed by a presentation in Madhya Laya Teen Taal titled “Yashomati Jhulave Lalana Palana.” He concluded his performance with a fast-paced composition in Drut Teen Taal titled “Abahu Lalana Main Ka.”

Post which, Kolkata-based young singer Prasoonjit Chakravarti presented a composition in Raga Madhukouns in a slow tempo titled “Adidev Maheshwar,” followed by a presentation in Madhya Laya Teen Taal titled “Sab Jagat Ke Antaryami.” The program concluded with a rendition of a Sant Surdas bhajan based on Raga Mishra Bhairavi.

Pavan Kumar Mishra, the founder of “Aai Velu,” was also present at the event.

Ashish Kukreti highlighted that ‘Shruti-Sarita Art’ is committed to providing a suitable platform for classical musicians. He mentioned that they consistently organize such programs to promote classical music education amongst students, youth, and the general public, and they have been successful in this endeavor.
