0

Dehradun, Senior Vice President FICCI FLO and woman entrepreneur Nazia Izuddin held a press conference earlier in the day where she brought to the notice that her house was attacked by an unruly mob of 150 people yesterday evening. She claimed that the attack at her residence in village Challang, Rajpur, Dehradun was led by Pankaj Aggarwal, Yogesh Bhatt, Mukesh Joshi and Ajay Dabral, well-known names in media and business fraternity.

According to her, the mob of men and women ran a mock the above said property with arms and ammunitions, physically assaulted her house help, guard and demolished her guard house with a JCB brought to the spot. Nazia added that despite repeated requests to the police, no security was given to her and though the police had taken a written complaint naming three,  they had not yet filed an FIR.

Speaking on the occasion, she said, “This reflects that the Dehradun Police does not take the safety of women seriously. Is this how daughters and daughter in laws of the State are treated? We could have even been killed. I feel insecure and threatened.”

Nazia also disclosed that in the recent past she had issued a defamation notice against Mukesh Joshi who had tried to malign her business image.

Taking cognisance of the matter, SSP Dehradun, Nivedita Kukreti updated Newspost stating, “actually this is a property dispute. We have asked both the parties in question to show us their ownership papers (land in dispute), to first determine whose land it is. I have asked SDM and Revenue Department to look into it as well.”

With back-to-back programmes spread across three days, the former students left behind families and busy schedules to take time off and bond with childhood friends over music, bonfire and laughter, catching up on lost times. Recollecting their well-spent childhood in the hill station and a School that remains unchanged despite the onslaught of time, meant volumes to the former students.

Once again, donning their school uniforms, the well turned out men in black and grey, took part in the march past at the School’s Sports Day. A moment of pride not only for those who took part in the march but for those who witnessed the impressive line-up. Brother Carrol, the former Principal of the 1993 Batch made sure he was amongst his former students who were presented mementos  by Chief Guest, Major General Ashok Sheoran (VSM), himself a Manorite of the 1968 batch.

Dehradun, Rarely do school students get a chance to meet a legend in person and interact with them can be sheer heaven. Classes 8th-12th grade of Col Brown School, Dehradun were amongst the lucky few.

Col Brown School played the perfect host for Group Captain AG Bewoor – commissioned into the Indian Air Force in October 1965 – and was awarded the prestigious Sena Medal Gallantry in 1990, for his illustrious career in the Indian Air Force.

The association of his family to Dehradun dates back to the early 20’s when his Uncle joined RIMC and his his father was an alumnus of Col Brown from 1925 to 1927.

Today GP Capt Bewoor visited his father’s Alma mater, interacting with young minds taking them gently down memory lane recollecting Operation Cactus via an hour-long video presentation. “This is a rare privilege to be invited and tell my story of Op Cactus to young boys and girls absolute rare privilege,” he said.

Capt Bewoor spoke at length to his audience in rapt attention about how, “44 Squadron With 1L-76s; 12,43 and 49 Sqns with AN -32’s, 7 SQN with Mirage -2000 and 50 Parachute Brigade, including INS Betwa and INS Godawari of the Indian Navy were stationed to intercept merchant ships escaping from Maldives and going to Sri Lanka.”

Da Desi Toli – A Band of Boys.

1

There is no dearth of talent in Uttarakhand, especially when it comes to Music, most of the write-ups we have done so far on Newspost, have been about the young, brilliant, talented girls and boys who have made music their passion.

Under the same Index today we add another name Da Desi Toli, a bunch of friends, all from Dehradun who came together for the love of hip-hop music.

Including their Founder Vivek Mishra and CEO Rahul Singh Raiychu, there are nine other  team members who complete DDT.

Da Desi Toli was brought together by its founder Vivek Mishra in January last year and soon a band of 17 to 22 year old energetic, talented boys joined this unique Toli. Rahul tells us, “The reason behind the group was to popularise hip-hop and give budding artists a perfect platform to showcase their hip hop talent.” A promise that DDT has proudly lived-up to.

Their popularity can be gauged from the fact that in the past one year they have over seven thousand fans on YouTube along with four lakh views and counting.

On 21st September this year, Da Desi Toli launched their latest hip-hop track ‘Dehradun Underground.’ Within seven days the song was appreciated and viewed by over thirty two thousand people. The icing on the cake was when the track was shared by YouTube interviewer Raj Jones. Rahul adds,Out of all the songs that we have launched thus far, Rahne Day has been the most popular one with over one lakh twenty thousand views.”  Da Desi Toli also boasts of having launched five consecutive songs over a period of five days, a feat worth boasting off.

DDT does not want to limit their circle, Rahul plans, “In the future we would like to tie-up with international hip-hop artists and make good songs. Our songs are based on present day hardships and if those problems can be resolved to some extent, by what we attempt, it is a step in the right direction.”

In the meantime, the efforts of Da Desi Toli has not gone unnoticed by famous national and international artists as well.  The likes of Ika Music, DJ Shadow Dubai, Raj Jones, Bliems and Noobie too have appreciated the efforts of the group.

The team has a well-equipped studio in Premnagar where they shoot, video and audio edit their songs themselves. “A lot of young talent goes to waste as they cannot afford to bring their talent to the forefront, we try to give such budding talent that perfect launch that they are looking for,” Rahul tells us.

Now we look forward to their next.

With love to our Alma Mater; 1968 Alwynian Batch

2

Last week, the 1968 batch of Wynberg Allen, came back to school for their Golden Reunion. Around thirty batch-mates, from across the globe, along with their teacher Mr. Colin Carr from London, now in his late seventies, took time off from their busy schedule to return to their Alma Mater, Wynberg Allen School, Mussoorie.

Exactly fifty years hence, on their first visit as a group, the classmates came together and donated a Clock to an institution that that laid the foundation of who they are today: “A landmark to the school which will stand tall bearing the placard that the clock is a gift from the “Class of 1968”. This tribute in our memory will be a reminder to future generations what the school meant to us many years after graduation.

In a small ceremony that took place on the 5th of October, School Captain from 1968, Mr. Naresh Pawa inaugurated the Clock. Installed by Medieval India, the brand-new clock tower features a stunning classical look replicating the Master Ash pattern in order to create and add character to the school’s unique building. Philip Dayal, from the batch of 1968 said, “the School has been supportive and cooperative. It is for the  first time in the history of the school that a 50 year reunion took place. This tower clock is dedicated to the students spread across the globe in US, UK, Canada and Thailand.

Traditional and distinguished in style yet equipped with modern reliable clock mechanism, the clock works with the Global Positioning System. It ensures accurate time from the satellite, via a receiver that automatically updates the RTC (Real Time Clock) installed within the master controller.

Completely in sync with the school building that date backs to 1888, the clock adds character and underlines the significance of Allen Memorial School, which celebrates 130 years of its existence this year. The clock is a perfect reminder to the old and new students: Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going!
